Are you a small business owner in Canada? If not, are you thinking about starting your own small business?
If any of those two apply to you, then you must know more about the Canada Job Grant as a small business funding program.
So who can apply for the Canada Job Grant Program?
Those who may be eligible for the job grant program include any small business in Canada, whether profit or non-profit, that has a plan to train Canadians and prepare them for a new job or a better job.
GROW YOUR BUSINESS WITH GRANTS & LOANS
Learn about the funding available for your small business. It just takes a second!
As a small business owner hiring employees, you are the one who is able to identify the skills and requirements your business needs and the areas of your business that require the right skills to ensure the most successful candidate. The Canada Job Grant offers funding toward the cost of training that is provided by eligible third-party trainers. The funding for the training is split between the Canadian government and the small business owner.
The potential is there, as the Canadian government could provide up to two-thirds of the training required. The funding provided is up to a maximum of $10,000 per grant. Small business owners would be responsible for the remaining one-third of the training costs for their employees.
Small business owners with fewer than 50 employees could also benefit from the program through flexible arrangements, such as the potential to count employee wages as part of their contribution.
Example of How the Canada Job Grant Works
A Toronto-based trucking company is hiring new truck drivers for their operation. John, a Toronto truck driver who previously drove smaller trucks, applies for the position. However, in order to operate larger trucks, he needs additional training.
The cost of the training John requires is $2,000. The Toronto-based trucking company applies for and obtains the Canada Job Grant for $1,000, and the remaining $1,000 is paid by the company. John receives the training for his new job, and the trucking company gains a perfectly trained employee with the exact skills needed.
What Type of Training Is Provided?
Training covered by the Canada Job Grant can take place in a number of different settings, such as a school, the workplace, or online. The program can provide training to help individuals improve and obtain new skills in areas such as truck and transportation mechanics, carpentry, computer science, engineering, and many more.
Contact your local government to find out if you may be eligible for the Canada Job Grant.
