Rant on Why You Will Never Get Government Funding

Why You Will Never Get Government Funding for Your Small Business…

Let me start off by saying that the subject of this article is a little rough, wouldn’t you agree? I’m sorry about that, but unfortunately, it’s the truth.

Over the last few months I spoke with more than a thousand so called “entrepreneurs” who are thinking of starting their small business. Many were smart individuals with great ideas and real potential. But I came to realize one thing, too many of these “entrepreneurs” have not one, but two rather large shortcomings.

The first one - a lack of money to start or fund their small business - is more of a challenge than a shortcoming.

The second one that surprised me greatly: the lack of desire to actually try to do something about it and get the money or funding for their dream.

Maybe this article isn’t for you - perhaps you aren’t that kind of person. But if you are… if the idea of having to put any effort into achieving something makes that very thing “not worth your while”; then that is why you will never get funding from private investors nor the Canadian government.

Think About It:

If your boss said to you, “You currently make minimum wage. I want to promote you and give you $18 per hour, but you have to take a course to update your skills so that I can increase your wage.

This course costs $500, but your new wage will allow you to make that money back in one month.” Would you take it?

You are driving your car down the road and you hear a squeaking noise. You get worried because you have a small child with you in your car and you take it to the nearest mechanic. The mechanic says to you, in order to keep driving your car you have to replace a specific part. The part will cost $350.

Would you spend $350 to replace the part or just get rid of your car altogether?

You have a house, worth $550,000 and you are thinking of selling. Your real estate agent tells you that if you did a few upgrades on your kitchen and invested another $20,000 to make the necessary improvements, it would bring your house value to $600,000 and it could be sold much faster.

Would you invest $20,000 to make back that money plus an additional $30,000?

Sometimes you have to invest in what is important to you in order to generate the results you hope to achieve. In this case, if your small business, or your “dream” of being a business owner is important to you, and you need funding to start your business, what is holding you back?

Our Small Business Startup Platform gives you access to tools. Tools that are critical to you if you are serious about starting a business.

So Let Me Break It Down for You

Startup Guide

If you want to start a business but are not sure which steps to take in order to get it underway, the Startup Guide assists you in every step of starting your business.

You need help? You need direction? Stop letting that hold you back. There is help available.

Business Plan Builder

You do not want to waste your time writing a business plan if you do not have the money to start up anyway, right? Wrong. If you have not written your plan, you literally do not even know how much money you will actually need. The Business Plan Builder tool allows you to create a business plan in a few easy, interactive steps. This plan will be your roadmap to success and will serve as an outline for the steps you will need to take to make this goal a reality.

Funding Funding Funding

I have no money so I cannot start a business. I do not have a penny to my name. I work for minimum wage and cannot save to start up. If you got a dollar for every excuse you have made for not starting your business, I would imagine you would already have enough to fund your project.

Now think of the opposite of that statement. The key to successfully getting your small business funded is by providing all the reasons why your business should be started. All of the problems it solves for its customers, and all of the benefits it will bring to its industry, market, community, and more.

The Funding Database has over 1,500 sources of funding programs from the Canadian government in the form of grants, loans (low interest, no interest), tax breaks, and more, as well as a listing of hundreds of private investors. All you have to do is look, qualify, and apply.

What Is Stopping You?

You will not get funding, and you will not get your business started if you do not try.

So I have some advice for you. I have presented you with an opportunity to join CanadaStartups.org, review our Small Business Startup Platform, take the Startup Assessment Test, look at all of our membership perks, and register today to benefit from all of the great tools.

It may cost you more, it may not offer expert advice or live support, it may not be so direct with you, but regardless, help is available. So if you want to do something good for yourself and your business, go out and do it today.

If not, stay at your same job, making your same salary, struggling to afford a vacation, or the car you want, or just to make your mortgage payment, or support your kids. And if you are currently unemployed and using that as your excuse, there is always work available for those willing to put in the time.
